I have been thinking about what it really means to live the abundant life. Jesus said that the thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows].” John 10:10. What does that abundant life look like?

Most of us are living below our privileges. We have settled into a routine and defined “normal” by our day to day experiences. We have allowed circumstances to show us the boundary of possibility. We have accepted common knowledge as the standard. We have rationalized what it means to be made in the image and likeness of God. We have surrendered to our humanity and refused to place a demand on our divinity.

That ought not be so.

There is more to life and we have the capacity for so much more. It’s time to go back to the foundation and rediscover who we really are. It is time to get off cruise control and get into alignment with the plan of God and really get to know Him.

Know God

The most important thing you can do this year is to really get to know God by spending quality time studying the bible every day. As your relationship with God develops, you will be drawn to a life of excellence and begin to see things through His eyes. You will develop an intimate relationship with the Holy Spirit, encounter the wisdom of God and begin to recognize His leading in your life.

As soon as you make up your mind to spend more time with God, there will be distractions and events competing for your time, but you need to dig in your heels and determine not to let go of the His Word. If you fall, you need to make up your mind to get right back up and keep growing in God. No matter how you feel, stay with the Word of God – don’t let go.

We all need to watch out for a very dangerous place called the “comfort zone”. The good is always the enemy of the best and you must refuse to stagnate. Growth is a process and the key is to keep growing. Never get to a point where you are no longer hungry for the things of God – There is always more in God

“The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day.” Proverbs 4:18

Have a wonderful week!

The 2016 marathon started on January 1. What an exciting day filled with dreams, fresh outlook, renewed hope and great expectation. The days started with a burst of high energy, healthy habits and gusto.

January will end in a few days and the momentum of the new year seems to be waning. Things are threatening to go back to the pre-2016 normal and the days are starting to feel familiar. The problem with normal is that it keeps things the same. I don’t want things to remain the same, I want to soar this year and be ALL that God created me to be.

The secret to sustain momentum is daily commitment to improvement. Each day matters! The way you and I spend time each day and the choices we make will either take us closer or farther from the goal. The brush strokes of everyday life are painting the portrait of tomorrow.

The familiar is comfortable but oftentimes it is far from the best of God. We need to be willing to step out of the boat and trust God’s leading. Your willingness to obey directly impact your momentum to destiny.

Break up with the familiar and embrace the new

Dont limit God

Mary had a unique experience with God that was unprecedented. She was a young lady in an exciting phase of life. She was engaged to be married and life was good. Then an angel visited her with a message that she would have a son. Her first reaction to the angelic visitation was confusion – how will that happen? The angel said she would be overshadowed by the Holy Spirit – whatever that meant. Mary responded with the words: “Let it be to me according to your word!”

Mary did not rationalize or ask for proof; she simply yielded to God and the world has not been the same.

Don’t let 2016 get on cruise control. Live each day intentionally and experience greatness!

God wants to do so much more in your life than what you are experiencing now. Yield to the promptings of God and trust Him to lead you to what He has for you.

God is about to do new things, do not limit Him to your past experiences. By faith, enlarge your capacity to receive from God and determine to do what the bible says. Daily obedience will sustain the momentum in 2016.

“Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back; lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes.” Isaiah 54:2

Prayer time changed in our home when my daughter Temi learnt the Lord’s Prayer. Now the Lord ’s Prayer is the standard prayer in our household. It does not matter what the occasion is: morning prayer, night prayer, mealtime prayer, my princess prays the Lord’s prayer.

The first time Temi said the Lord’s Prayer, it was so cute and profound. Hubby and I grabbed our phones and recorded those precious words. It was heartwarming and we mouthed those precious words as she prayed them earnestly. Then it became apparent that Temi really loves the Lord’s Prayer and would pray it at every opportunity.

I need to admit that sometimes I’ve tried hastening the prayer along to keep things moving at the dinner table. However I quickly realized my hurry tactics had no effect on Temi and she would enunciate each word of the prayer and end with a resounding “Amen!”

Finally I settled into the pattern and then an amazing thing happened – the prayer began to come alive to me! Each time she would say the words, revelation would explode in my spirit.

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

(Matthew 6:9-13)

Daily Provision

Jesus taught His disciples to pray these powerful words. The prayer starts by establishing our identity as children of God praying to our Father in heaven. This gives us the boldness to approach the throne of God with confidence and receive freely from Him.

The words “Give us this day our daily bread” have been echoing in my heart. God wants us to depend on Him for daily provision. He wants to be involved in the details of our lives.

God wants to take care of every need, every day. He wants us to cast all cares on Him and enjoy the present instead of regretting past decisions or worrying about tomorrow.

The abundant love of God shines through His promise of daily provision. You can rely on God each day for your supply. Cast all of your cares on God and live in the moment. Do not let the pressure or cares of this world weigh you down. Trust God with each day.

Daily bread includes whatever you need for your daily sustenance – strength, provision, wisdom, favor, joy, etc. It’s like getting a box of supplies each morning when you open your eyes.

Unfortunately many of us try to make it through each day on our own, hauling our cares along the journey of life while trying our best. The problem is that our best is nothing compared to God’s enablement.

Let God take care of you – receive His provision each day and live your life to the fullest.

I woke up feeling out of line. I had let things slip and it felt like I had a backlog in every area. I walked into the prayer room for my daily time with God with that burden on my heart. My heart cry was “Lord align me!” It felt like I had the energy to do the barest minimum just to get by and I knew that was far from my best so I let out a desperate cry to the only person who could help me – Lord realign me and refocus my priorities!

Grasping for grace, I opened my bible to Psalm 37:23-24 and the words flooded my heart with peace.

“The steps of a [good] man are directed and established by the Lord when He delights in his way [and He busies Himself with his every step]. Though he falls, he shall not be utterly cast down, for the Lord grasps his hand in support and upholds him.”

It thrilled me to visualize God busy with my every step. I could see Him guiding, redirecting and recalibrating the routes of my life while supporting me through the falls. What an expression of love! The God who created the heavens and earth takes the time to direct my steps and be involved in my life.

God cares

God is interested in the details of your life. The details do matter to Him. He is heavily invested in your everyday life – yes including the decisions, the surprises, the highs and the lows. Therefore loneliness is an illusion! You are not alone – God is right there with you working out the details and He will make all things work together for your good. God is busy with your life.

Let the reality of the presence and the love of God warm your heart and provide the reassurance that you will never be without help. Face each day and all it brings with the knowledge that the Lord is directing your steps and you will win.

Imagine how beautiful it would be to see the world through the eyes of God. Imagine the compassion that pours out of God when He looks at His creation.

God sees the world through the lens of love. You and I can also see the world through the eyes of God when we put on God vision goggles of love. When we look through the eyes of love, we look through the eyes of God.

Love is the heartbeat of God. When we love each other, we become the hand of God extended to the world.

Love never gives up.

Love cares more for others than for self.

Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have.

Love doesn’t strut,

Doesn’t have a swelled head,

Doesn’t force itself on others,

Isn’t always “me first,”

Doesn’t fly off the handle,

Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others,

Doesn’t revel when others grovel,

Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,

Puts up with anything,

Trusts God always,

Always looks for the best,

Never looks back, But keeps going to the end.

The world is hurting and people need more love and compassion. With our God-Vision goggles intact, we can be the beginning of a love revolution.

The day started out really hot! The temperature was 102⁰F with an actual feel of 105⁰F and heat wave warnings. True to prediction – it was hot and humid! The afternoon heat was almost unbearable. Then suddenly there was heavy rain and a drastic drop in temperature. The day that started so hot ended with heavy rains and a flash flood warning!

It rained so hard, the visibility was poor and it was difficult to drive. With the thunderbolts blaring, car wipers on full speed, hazard lights on, I crawled through the streets looking for a safe place to park till conditions improved. Glancing at the back seat, I saw my son sleeping peacefully through the chaos and my daughter was perfectly calm singing along with the radio which was barely audible with the loud noise outside. Even though I was sweating it out at the wheels trying to get us home safely, my children were at peace because mummy was driving and they knew she would get them home safely.

Trusting God is just like that. When God is driving the car of your life, you can remain at peace and know that He will definitely get you to your destination safely. No matter what the storms look like, He is not nervous in any way and He is not surprised by the rain, the roller coaster temperature or the labyrinth of life.

Instead of worrying about twists and turns on the way, choose to rely completely on God and trust Him with your life. You can choose to worry or choose to trust God. Worry is a state of anxiety and uncertainty over actual or potential problems, while Faith is the confidence that the good things we hope for will actually happen and that gives us assurance about things we cannot see.

It will be tempting to worry and fret during tough situations, but we can choose to rely on the love of God and make a daily commitment to remain steadfast and trust God.

“You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered!”

Psalm 139:16-17

Christ is the solid rock, stand on Him: (Click to listen)

Trust God and rest in His love.

Each day I am faced with two options: I could let the activities of the day drive my action or I could find creative ways to move in the direction of my dreams while going about my daily business. Irrespective of the path I choose, one thing remains constant – the day will end.

I have found that it is so easy to postpone taking action today because there are always urgent matters to address and “later” should be a better time to start. However, the most important things in life are not always urgent and could easily end up on the back burner.

The time to act is now. When we wait to pursue our dreams, we are putting important things on the backburner. Things on the backburner are out of active consideration or development. Most times, the urgent takes precedence over the important and the backburner piles up with unfinished projects, draft songs, prototypes, incomplete designs and unfulfilled dreams.

How many important things have you placed on the backburner hoping for a more convenient time?

The backburner can be a blessing or a snare. It provides an opportunity to prioritize and selectively focus on one thing at a time, channeling resources for maximum return. However it becomes a snare when the dream that should be burning in your heart is sizzling on the back burner.

Stop postponing the fulfillment of the plan and purpose of God for your life. You need to activate the vision again and ignite your passion. It might be difficult but you need to keep pressing in. Each step gets you closer to the fulfillment of your dreams and the process strengthens you and prepares you for greater opportunities.

Do not allow the waves of each day to carry you in the direction of the circumstances around you. Make conscious effort each day and take steps in the direction of your dream. Each step will get you closer and things will become clearer as you begin to move.

“The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day.” Proverbs 4:18

Get your dream off the backburner. Start moving and keep going.

When you feel weak – Remember that the Holy Spirit is your helper (John 14:26)

When you feel you cannot go on – Remember that you can do all things through Christ who gives you strength (Philippians 4:13)

When you feel overwhelmed – Remember that God gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless (Isaiah 40:29)

When you feel intimidated – Remember that greater is He that is in you than He that is in the world (1 John 4:4)

Reignite your passion for the dreams that God has given you! You were created for so much more!

I have always wondered if the saying, “when the going gets tough, the tough get going”, really means that “when the going gets tough, the tough put on a façade”. The truth is that we all need a boost when the going gets tough. It takes more than sheer determination – it takes a renewed focus.

When life gets tough, circumstances press in and threaten to drown out the truth of who you are. The truth is that God loves you and your current situation does not determine your future.

God has not changed His mind about you. He still loves you and He still has great plans for you. It does not matter how messed up things have become, there is still a way out and God’s heart yearns for you even more.

Gideon found himself stuck in a life that was far from the victorious dreams he had. Nothing in his life bore any semblance to the countless stories he heard about past victories. The best days seemed to be in the past; things were really tough to the extent that he had to thresh wheat in the winepress to hide the food from the enemy. He was in hiding, barely having enough, trying to make it through each day.

In the midst of the depravity, the angel of God appeared to Gideon and called him a mighty man of valor. He did not feel like a mighty man and he definitely did not look like one as he crouched in the pit trying to harvest food and stash it away from the enemy.

The truth is that your value does not fluctuate with circumstances. Your feelings might fluctuate but that does not change the truth. When the angel of God appeared to Gideon and said, “The LORD is with you, you mighty man of valor!” He was stating the truth.

However, the truth sounded so far-fetched to Gideon in the dire circumstances that he responded with a question: “O my lord, if the LORD is with us, why then has all this happened to us?” He did not believe that God was with him during the trials.

Perhaps you have the same question on your mind: “If God is with me, why has all this happened to me?” be encouraged – you are not alone. God is with you and He will bring you out! He is calling you to ARISE!

“Arise from the depression and prostration in which circumstances have kept you—rise to a new life! Shine – be radiant with the glory of the Lord, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you!” Isa 60:1

God is with you! His love is reaching out to you right now. Rise up with renewed strength and face your giants.

Gideon’s victory was guaranteed because God was with him and so is yours. You need to make a decision to arise and refuse to let circumstances keep you down. You will win because God is with you!

It is 6:40pm and I am cutting it really close for my 7:00pm appointment. I peered through the window to assess the intensity of the rain one last time and then scurried to the car. Turning on the ignition, I let out a deep sigh when I noticed the fuel gauge was very close to “E”. I was already running late and I prayed that the gas in my tank would be enough to get me to my destination. My car seems to run out of gas at the most inconvenient times! If only everything will work perfectly on my schedule…

Anyway, I had a 7:00pm appointment and I was not planning to be late. I had a 10 minute drive and I would buy gas on my way back home. That sounded like a good plan until I pulled out of the driveway and the low fuel signal on the dashboard lit up! That was a last warning – I was about to run completely out of gas and that would be a disaster. I could not imagine being stuck on the road with children in the car on a rainy day because we ran out of gas! Even though I would be late for my appointment, my priority changed and gas became my most immediate need.

Standing in the gas station, I wondered how many times I let my spiritual tank run low and how long I let the low fuel signal stay on because I’m rushing to make it through yet another day before filling my tank with more of God.

Running on Empty

The only way to live a fulfilled life is to spend quality time with God daily.

Spending time in the Word of God and prayer builds up your spiritual reservoir and fills your tank with the fuel you need for everyday life. Life can be so busy and if the “to-do” list dictates what gets done, there will be no time to fill your spiritual tank. However, you need to keep your priority in order and spend time with God every single day.

Jesus should be the center of your life and not just a meeting on your calendar.

When Jesus was on earth, He modeled the importance of spending time with God by constantly withdrawing from the crowd to spend time alone with God. He would go to the mountain or a deserted place to avoid the distractions of everyday life. Many times, Jesus spent night time in prayer and communion with God so that He would have the strength required to minister to the crowd in the morning.

When the disciples took their first mission trip, they returned excited at the display of the power of God they experienced. The blind eyes were opened, the lame walked. The power of God was real and the demons bowed -They performed the same miracles as Jesus! In response to their excitement and victory reports, Jesus pulled them aside to rest.

Rest – who wants to rest instead of changing the world? Who has time to rest when there is still so much to accomplish?

You will accomplish so much more with God than you could ever hope to accomplish alone.

Refuse the temptation to wake up to the blast of the marathon whistle and jump into the race of life each day. Taking the time to seek God for His direction every morning is the best investment of your time.

Make it a priority to spend time with God each day before you get in the game.

As the river cruise ship pulled off the dock at Westminster Pier onto the Thames River, my bravado waned. As the ship gained speed, my heart gained pace. Instead of enjoying the historic views, I sat wringing my fingers nervously because I was in unfamiliar territory. Staring at the glassy sea, I imagined the braver me stepping out and walking on water. The thought was exhilarating and my thoughts wandered to Peter, his expertise with water and his out of the box experiences with Jesus.

Peter’s first encounter with Jesus was at the Sea of Galilee after an unusually long and disappointing night of fishing. Peter had tried all the fishing maneuvers but caught nothing. In the morning, exhausted, he washed his nets and pondered the implications of the fruitless night – no food and no fish to sell.

Just then, Jesus started teaching by the seaside and when the crowd pressed in on him, he stepped into Simon’s boat, and taught from there. After His teaching, Jesus asked Peter to launch out into the deep and let down his nets for a catch. Peter said to Him “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net”. (Luke 5:5)

As an experienced fisherman, he knew that daytime was the worst time to fish. Yet Peter decided to act on the word of Jesus. He caught a multitude of fish that day and became a disciple of Jesus.

Do the Impossible!

On another occasion, Jesus sent his disciples across the river while he went to pray on the mountain. At night, Jesus walked on the sea to meet them. When the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were terrified because they thought He was a ghost. Jesus spoke to the to allay their fears and Peter made a daring statement: “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” Jesus beckoned to him and Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus!

Everything in Peter’s training screamed that men don’t walk on water. Y et he ignored his conditioning, stepped out of the boat and walked on water to Jesus. However, when he gazed around and saw that the wind was boisterous; he became afraid, and started to sink.

Peter knew the waters, but the situations he encountered trumped his expertise. However he experienced the impossible because he acted on the words of Jesus.

Don’t let your experience stand in the way of what God is about to do in your life. When you act on the words of Jesus, you will experience the impossible!

God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that you think.

Step out on the waters and walk with Jesus. His grace abounds in deepest waters. (Click to listen to Hillsong UNITED’s “Oceans”

You are not bound to the confines of the ordinary. Trust God for the impossible.
